Build a company worth owning.
Upper Echelon Consulting (UEC) is execution first consulting for businesses generating $1M to $50M in revenue. Most mid-market companies do not need more advice. They need execution that holds up under pressure.
UEC works shoulder to shoulder with founders and leadership teams to replace chaos with clarity, cadence, and accountability. The outcome is disciplined follow through, measurable performance, and growth that does not depend on founder heroics.

Tailored solutions
Systems fit the business. The business does not fit a template.
Built for the messy middle.
Most companies do not stall because leaders are lazy or the market is unfair. They stall because growth outpaces the operating system.
At first, speed covers the cracks. A strong founder, a few A players, and long hours can keep things moving. Then the company gets bigger and the same habits turn into friction.
Meetings fill the calendar, but decisions still land on one person. Hand offs break across departments. Standards are implied instead of written. People do not fail because they do not care. They fail because the system is unclear.
The warning signs are consistent:
- You rework the same issues every month.
- You have KPIs, but they do not change behavior.
- You are hiring, but execution is getting slower.
- Your best people carry too much weight, and it is visible.
- The business depends on heroics, not rhythm.
UEC installs performance infrastructure. That means the company can execute priorities without relying on memory, charisma, or constant escalation.
The work is practical. It starts by making the truth visible, then putting standards around the truth. Roles get clarified. Decision rights get defined. Cadence turns into discipline.
The goal is stability under pressure. Teams should know what winning looks like, who owns the outcome, and what happens when the score is off track.
- Clear priorities and commitments with owners and due dates.
- Meeting rhythms that end with decisions and next actions.
- Scoreboards that surface problems early, not late.
- Accountability that is fair, consistent, and documented.
Clarity. Cadence. Accountability.
The goal is not more tools. The goal is standards the team follows, and a cadence that forces truth.
Meetings that produce outcomes.
- Leadership meeting standards and agendas.
- Commitments with owners and due dates.
- Issue escalation paths that prevent drift.
Visibility without chaos.
- Leading and lagging indicators by function.
- Thresholds that trigger action.
- Visibility across leadership, not silos.
Accountability that sticks.
- Decision rights defined.
- Hand offs and accountability cleaned up.
- Bottlenecks removed through structure.
Build once, run repeatedly.
- Quarter priorities the team can execute.
- Weekly progress that is measurable.
- Install once, then scale it.
Three strategic divisions.

Clayton Michael-Butler
Clayton Michael-Butler is a native of Mulberry, Indiana, raised on his family’s farm where responsibility was not a concept, it was daily life. As a student, he pursued leadership through FFA, then graduated high school early and served as a United States Marine Corps infantryman. That experience shaped how he leads and how he builds: disciplined, accountable, and focused on outcomes.
After military service, Clayton earned his bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness from Purdue University while continuing responsibilities tied to the family operation. He later earned dual master’s degrees in agricultural economics and business administration through Purdue University and Indiana University. His academic training strengthened what he learned firsthand: businesses grow when decisions are clear, systems are strong, and leaders follow through.
Clayton’s career spans agribusiness and commercial leadership across multi-state territories, with work in sales leadership, channel and dealer development, and growth execution. Over time, that work expanded into general management and ownership roles, including building and operating multiple ventures. Those seasons taught him the difference between effort and repeatable execution, and why good people still struggle when the operating system is unclear.
In 2022, Clayton founded Upper Echelon Consulting to help business owners translate strategy into disciplined execution through clarity, cadence, and accountability. Outside of business, he has served the agriculture community through Agriculture Future of America, including leadership roles at the national level and board service from 2020 to 2024. He also serves locally as a volunteer firefighter and supports military families through Folds of Honor.
